Ps. 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
To abide is to take up residence. What better place than the secret place of the most High: Father God. To make the first part of the statement more clear the writer adds, “Under the shadow of the Almighty.”
There is so much in this verse. Why is it secret? To whom is the secret revealed? How do we come to the place of abiding? What do we do to abide while still living in this ungodly world?
We know that the secret place is a spiritual place because of what Jesus said when talking to the man in Jn. 3:5-8. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of Spirit is spirit. 7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
What comes clear in this set of Scriptures? To enter the kingdom you must be Spiritually connected, born, re-created on the inside. Abiding is an inside work of the Almighty within our soul and spirit. Until we come to that place of accepting Him, we do not understand, nor know what it means fully.
The world knows the Spirit-indwelt Remnant is different. The world recognizes there is a strength within that causes them to be able to remain stable in unstable situations, to even face death if it is necessary. It sees them and persecutes them, but cannot unseat their inward man, nor defeat that power that abides within them: the very Spirit of their God. He is PRESENT within them.
The people of the world see the fruits of righteousness produced in all kinds of ways, but fathom it not. Because the world is self-generated, instead of God-generated, love, kindness, gentleness, and all the other fruits of the Spirit, are not prevalent in them. They cannot go to the secret place of the believing Remnant.
Jn. 15:4-9 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. 9. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
The people of this world are abiding in darkness and cannot know the secret of the Most High until they accept His report, His Word, and welcome His Spirit. We, the Remnant are not here just to enjoy His Spirit, but to give out the Gospel that the lost might be saved. Jesus said, in Jn.12:46, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide I darkness.” He came to share the Way, the Truth, and the Life, that ALL might be saved. As His own, we too, just spread the good news. (II Cor. 5:19) ….God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
The Remnant dwells under the shadow of the most High. There is power in that shadow. There is shelter in that shadow. But there is something to know about a shadow. You choose whether you are going to stay in it, or walk out from under it.
Two things that are very important.
#1. God’s Presence is Omnipresent. He is ever present, everywhere. So His shadow goes with us wherever we are at. Heaven (Mt. 5:35) is His dwelling place, earth His footstool.
#2. Choice is ours whether to remain, or walk away. We choose staying or going by our obedience and our love towards Him. He does not force anyone’s allegiance. Nor does He leave or forsake us. It is up to us to stay in His protection and under His shadow.
The Remnant is ‘Remnant abiding’ by choice and by privilege. Jesus came to open the door to eternal Presence with our God. The end times Remnant will live from the point of abiding in Jesus by the Spirit of our Living God. What a place. Let us fear lest we fall short of His promise and seek Him and love and worship Him. Let us contend for the faith once delivered. Jesus came once to redeem mankind. We have a beautiful, wonderful high walk under the shadow, in the secret place.
Jude 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
To contend means there is an enemy we have to come against. If we are to live for God and bring others to the faith we will have a battle. The Remnant is willing and ready to fight, to contend for the faith. Jesus came once in these end times to pave the way for us. We have a privilege, as His own, to take up the battle until the end when we meet Him in the air and enter into eternity. Let us bring as many with us as we can.
