1-23 The Remnant and the Spirit of Promise

Eph 1:3-13 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,…

What a beautiful place the Remnant has. We have been given the Holy Spirit of Promise.

A little background first.

In the beginning God was spiritually connected to His created man. There was no sin in man to separate him from His God. And God wanted it that way. He still wants it that way. Man was filled with “holy spiritual life” mentally, physically and spiritually. He could walk and talk in direct contact with His Father God.

But then sin happened and brought the element of evil into man’s being. From that point forth God enacted His plan of redemption, the coming of Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son. The Son would bring forth the reconnection via the Holy Spirit of Promise. We would once again be able to reconnect to our Father God through baptism in the Spirit.

So on to our verses:

Eph 1:3-13 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Love is the key, both on earth and in heaven. Because He loved us He sent His Son. Because He loved the Son He raised Him up victorious as our Redeemer. Because the Son loved the Father and Us He offered Himself as the sacrifice to end our sentence of death. He paid the price of forgiveness and overcame the enemies license to kill us. He brought life.

When the Son returned to the Father, He then sent the baptism in the Holy Ghost to fill us with His Spirit and the Spirit of His Father; the key to reconnection. That is why the Spirit is called the Holy Spirit of Promise. We have the promise now of being reconnected and at the end of this life receiving life eternal: all blessings in heavenly places in Christ.

Eph. 1:5-6 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

All of these blessings were the predestined intentional end for those who choose God, who choose to follow Him. These ones will be the adopted Remnant children of the Father whom Jesus has drawn to Himself. It is a pleasure to Him. It is His will, His desire. He has made us the accepted in the beloved. The Remnant is loved of the Father and the Son. This is why they developed the plan, before the earth was even here, to redeem man should he fall. What love.

Eph. 1:7-8 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

The innocent blood that was shed on the cross of death was a high price made by Jesus Christ, with all wisdom and knowledge of what it would take to free us. It is a mystery revealed now, as He has risen victorious over that death and returned to us the Holy Spirit we needed to be able to withstand the wiles of the enemy.

Not only did it return to us the Spirit of Promise, but it bought our forgiveness from the sin nature now put upon man because of the original sin. When we choose to come to Him, to believe in Him, to obey Him, our sins are washed away as far as the east is from the west.

It was His good pleasure to bring these things to mankind and return us to the Father.

Eph. 1:10-12 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

When the fullness of times comes, when Christ comes again to gather His Remnant, we will have obtained our inheritance. He will gather those who have trusted in Him and given Him the glory. Are we bringing praise to His glory? Are our words directed towards giving Him all the glory? Are we ready to be gathered together with all the saints, both those who are alive and those who are asleep?

In conclusion….

Eph. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,…

We have a place of trust in our Savior when we believe the Word of Truth which is our Gospel of Salvation. The reward is that we are Sealed with that Holy Spirit of Promise.
