1-6 The Remnant is Armed – The Name of Jesus.

This may sound like a strange subject to some, but, in Ephesians we are told to take on the whole armour of God.

Eph 6:10-18 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; KJV

We have a real enemy, and he is a thief, a liar, and a murderer. He is spiritual, so our weapons must, of needs, be spiritual.  He works from high places, in darkness, with principalities and powers. But NONE of those powers can withstand the power of our Living God.

For the next few blogs we will be discovering how you and I can overcome the wiles of the devil each time he comes against us, but also how to cast him off from his destruction in our lives and the lives of our loved ones and the lost of this world. We are AT WAR.

Weapon #1: The NAME of Jesus.

What is the name by which we are saved? Jesus.

Amazingly, that salvation isn’t just from our sins, but it is the life-saving salvation in the midst of many battles we face against the enemy, and battles we will have as long as we dwell in this flesh.

There is victory in the name of Jesus.

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that all MIGHT be saved. (J. 3:16) It is a privilege offered to all.

And He named His Son Jesus before He was born, knowing that this Son would overcome the devil’s power over mankind and that, through His name many mighty things would be done.

Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. KJV

So just how and why does the Name of Jesus have power? And with whom does it work?

It works with the Remnant, those who love and know their Father and His Son Jesus Christ. It works because the Father hears it and answers from heaven.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. KJV

Why does this name mean so much to Father God that when He hears it He acts in the behalf of mankind?

First of all, in the beginning, man belonged to the Father God. But then that man sinned and brought death into the life of mankind and separated him from His God.

In the Old Testament there were sacrifices of cows, goats etc. to wipe away sin, but they did not cleanse the inner man, the conscience. They were not worthy of paying the price of sin. Only a sinless man could pay that price to redeem mankind from their fallen condition.  Hence, God, in His great love for mankind, sent His only begotten Son to redeem us.  And the death of that Son was precious, costly to the Father, and the source of Life for mankind.

Because Jesus did not sin death could have no power over Him. He shed His blood in our place, paid for our sins, and gave us the doorway back to the presence of our Living God and Father. His holy blood washed us white as snow, sinless with our sins removed as far as the east is from the west. He was worthy to be resurrected and was the First Begotten of the dead. We will follow Him when it comes our time to die.

How does that translate into power? Every time the Remnant speaks the Name of Jesus into a situation, we proclaim once again, the death of the power which satan had over mankind. We proclaim the blood bought debt paid and satan defeated. Death no longer packs power to hold us. Death no longer has the sting of permanency.

To be absent from this flesh is to be present with the Lord. What a wonderful thought.

2 Cor 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. KJV

So, when we are faced with the trials of this life we have two options to use the Name of Jesus. The first is to seek God’s face in the Name of Jesus for help, healing, raising of the dead, or for salvation of the lost, etc.

The second is commanding action, taking up Jesus’ authority and bringing down the devil’s  power. This takes place with such things as deliverance from demonic presence, expelling satan’s influence in areas where he is reigning, and setting captives free.

The Name of Jesus can do anything. With God nothing shall be impossible. I am not claiming the Name of Jesus as some magic wand, nor yet, that just because we say His Name we will win every skirmish. Every situation has many factors relating to it. We live in a fallen world. God doesn’t do bad things to His own Remnant but the enemy does and simply living in this fallen world has effect on all of us.

Amazingly, Jesus could do very little in His own home town because of lack of belief. However, when He returned at a later date, many did believe. They had heard. And they were ready to receive.

It comes then that, faith does not produce because it is huge in an amount. Indeed, faith the size of a grain of mustard seed can move a mountain. So then, it is the vessel, you and I, and the faith we have within us in Jesus Christ and His ability that brings forth God’s will in Jesus’ name.

From personal experience I have discovered that the more I draw near to Jesus, the more He can do to, and with me, and the more He can draw near to me. As answers come when I speak in Jesus’ Name my faith is placed more and more in Him and His ability. As I introduce HIS Name into each situation I am learning just how powerful He is and depending less and less on my understanding. I am learning to just trust Him to be faithful to do what He does in our lives and the lives of others, to bring us to our expected end: Heaven and eternity.

Do I have all the answers? No. But as I draw closer and closer to Him I am finding I don’t really care about knowing all the answers, I just want to know Him with all my heart, soul and mind. And the more I do that, the more answers I am seeing, and the more empowerment He is trusting me with.
